Lowell Thomas (1892-1981) was a US-born journalist and travel writer. He pioneered aspects of modern American journalism and was quite skilled at self-promotion.
A particular method he used with his travel writing was to develop symbiotic relationships with railroads. As you'll notice, all the photos of Quebec taken from this 1936 ex-libris book are credited to the CNR and CPR.
During World War I, Lowell Thomas embarked on a unique project. He documented and later presented to the public images of TE Lawrence's campaign in Arabia. Lawrence's effort was centred on encouraging the Arabs to fight and expel the Turks of the Ottoman Empire. A YouTube link appears below:
